The story of the Tokyo brand AMBUSH began in 2008. In search of jewelry to accompany the outfits of her husband Verbal, producer and hip-hop artist, self-taught designer Yoon Anh imagined a gold ring topped with a “POW!” ". Success is immediate. In the four corners of the world, the hip-hop scene is snapping up the punk rock-inspired creations of the Korean-American designer. Kanye West, Jay-Z, A$AP Rocky and even Rihanna fall for 18-carat gold chains, chokers and other safety pin-shaped earrings. After having multiplied collaborations ( Nike , Converse , Sacai, Louis Vuitton , etc.), in 2018, AMBUSH is enriched with a first clothing collection. Mesh hats, fishnet tops, oversized volumes, for her first pieces, Yoon Anh was inspired by reggae from the 1970s. Subsequently, elle paid homage to the stylist Ray Petri, pioneer of the Buffalo movement of the 1980s and to Thomas Jerome Newton, David Bowie's character in The Man Who Came From Elsewhere. Fascinated by subcultures and underground movements, elle makes a point of advocating freedom of expression and gender fluidity in her collections. Moreover, to better deconstruct stereotypes, elle prefers to classify her pieces by chromatic variation rather than by genre.
