Balenciaga Men
Founded in 1917 by Cristóbal Balenciaga, the Balenciaga house is still today a reference in terms of original creations. Enjoying an international reputation, the fashion house acquired its letters of nobility at the end of the 1930s when, after opening a boutique in Paris, the Spanish fashion designer presented his first Iberian-inspired collections. The infantes' dresses seduce, as do his bullfighting boleros which he transforms into evening jackets thanks to fabulous embroidery and trimmings. Quickly, movie stars of the time like Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich swore by her creations, praising her little black dresses with marked hips and her extravagant evening dresses. The following years were dedicated to experimenting with volumes, which, even today, is part of the label's DNA. In the 1950s, the designer presented the line Barrel which obscures the size, then offers scarf coats before revealing a line Semi-adjusted, fitted in the front and loose in the back, which tilts the silhouette from front to back. The lines are more and more straight and fluid until the creation of the dress Baby doll in 1958, which made the female body even more abstract, even sculptural.

Since 2016, Demna Gvasalia (also founder of the VETEMENTS label) has revisited the couture esprit of founder of the brand by injecting a touch of transgressive creativity thanks to play on volumes and an avant-garde and futuristic vision. Reinventing the classics and shaking up the codes, the Georgian designer offers a universe where men and women become one, where Haute Couture mixes with streetwear and where oversized cuts are legion. An approach that goes against the grain of conventions and a mix of genres that appeals, as underlined by the success of the flagship pieces that are sneakers Triple S, THE Speed, the coat and the bag Hourglass or even logo t-shirts and sweatshirts. In short, a winning bet which, in just a few years, has classified Balenciaga in the category of ultra-desirable brands.
