These are the ingredients at the heart of the scalp exfoliating scrub from New York-based haircare brand, John Masters Organics. Together, they detoxify and purify the scalp without irritating it. The result: soothed and strengthened hair.

1. Use as a pre-shampoo, on wet hair
2. Take a small amount of product on fingertips and massage into scalp, use more product if necessary
3. Apply from the hairline towards the middle of the scalp
4. Start from the back of the head, at the bottom, and work your way up. For long hair, tilt your head to apply to the back and crown of the head
5. Leave to act for 3 to 5 minutes
6. Rinse thoroughly and follow with your shampoo and conditioner
7. Use every other day for a few weeks to reduce flaking. Once the desired result is obtained, use once a week
