It-bag or not it-bag. For decades, fashion les créateurs have regularly racked their brains to find the right formula to create the bag whose commercial success would have as much impact as its fashion footprint. Cruel irony or simple proof of raw talent, it only took one attempt for Floriana Gavriel and Rachel Mansur to win this precious Grail from the very beginning of their brand. Sacred “first post-recession it-bag” by the very serious The Business of Fashion, THE Bucket Bag Mansur Gavriel was enough to put the young American leather goods brand into orbit.
A purveyor of cozy luxury that stood out in comparison to other accessories of the moment, this small bucket bag (also available in an XXS version) particularly seduced with its minimalism. Cut from smooth vegetable-tanned leather, soberly closed with a drawstring without metalwork, discreetly branded on the front in fine gold letters... the simplicity hit the mark and allowed the two friends to impose their delicate aesthetic without having to to raise your voice. A refined and unfussy success, an ascent with slightly magical accents which is also in line with their history. It all began in 2010 when the two young women met at The XX concert in Los Angeles, a creative and friendly love at first sight. Together, they share a passion for art and culture, from Roni Horn to Pina Bausch via Pedro Almodovar and Luis Barragan. A strong friendship that is forged at a distance since Rachel Mansur, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (Providence) lives in Los Angeles while Floriana Gavriel, who studied at the University of the Arts in Bremen (Germany) before doing her weapons at Lanvin , lives in Berlin. After several transatlantic visits, the duo began designing their brand. In 2012, the first prototypes were produced, only two, due to production costs. The beginnings will therefore be made with the Bucket Bag and Tote, two timeless styles that will prove to be wise choices. In June 2013, a move to New York, a launch, and some well-thought-out Instagram media (Garance Doré in the lead) later, success was felt. In just a few weeks, the bags are out of stock and are l'objet to increasingly long waiting lists.
Immediately (but without haste), the brand diversified and launched a line of shoes before offering ready-to- porter pieces which enjoyed the same success. Even today, Mansur Gavriel pieces are charged with a minimal and sophisticated aura which continues to give them their charm. Discretion has never been so chic.
