From magazine covers to our bathrooms, NARS cosmetics have conquered the planet. And if the brand is based in New York, elle is the work of a Frenchman, a pure product of the South-West: François Nars , originally from Tarbes. Admiring the outfits of his mother Claudette and the great couturiers, he developed an interest in fashion, beauty and art from an early age. This is how he enrolled in the aesthetics and makeup school of the Clarita institute in Paris. Once graduated, the young makeup artist began his career working with Olivier Échaudemaison then photographer Paolo Roversi before flying to the United States, to conquer his American dream. A step which marks the beginning of a long line of collaborations, each more prestigious than the last: Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Marc Jacobs , Valentino , Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, are just a few examples big names who called on François Nars .
In 1994, he decided to create his own makeup line consisting of only twelve lipsticks distributed at Barney's in New York.
