If Oakley is today one of the undisputed leaders in sports optics, the Californian brand started humbly. With only his ingenuity and 300 dollars in his pocket, Jim Jannard began in 1975, from his garage and in the company of his dog Oakley , the manufacture of handlebar grips for two wheels offering, thanks to a new material, a grip comfortable and adherent. Realizing that the latter could also be used to manufacture frames, he launched into eyewear in 1984, the date from which the label established its role as a pioneer in terms of technicality and performance. Recognized athletes and cyclists contribute to Oakley 's growth by notably wearing the famous O- Frame , an innovative pair whose cylindrical lens now serves as its logo, or the Eyeshades, an even lighter and more pointed model. While taking care to leave innovation at the heart of its philosophy, the brand diversified from the 90s onwards and offered the general public sunglasses and prescription glasses, some of which have also become iconic. To date, Oakley has filed more than 600 patents: this shows that, without ever sacrificing style of course, the Californian eyewear manufacturer remains focused on technology.
