Its name, inspired by a verse from the Bible which metaphorically enjoins not to give pearls to pigs because they cannot recognize their beauty, sums up the concept of the brand: offering jewelry created using materials deemed imperfect in order to to develop an original aesthetic and a new form of delicacy. Necklaces, bracelets and even rings take on a slightly aged and often raw dimension here which does not detract from their appeal. Helped by a merchant and long-time ami , Himo Martin collects pearls deemed imperfect by the jewelry industry. His favorites? Akoya and Tahitian pearls, which he then mounts on silver bases. Looking for a unique look, he then works the precious metal by oxidizing it or engraving it using unexpected instruments, from the medical world for example. In addition to their ethical dimension, Pearls before swine creations are also sustainable since they highlight pearls, stones and metals sourced fairly. Close to nature, the designer also parfois includes elements such as wood in his creations. And this is not the only way in which Himo Martin stands out. Far from the tumult of Fashion Weeks and their frantic pace, the Canadian jeweler does not offer its collections according to any schedule, basing itself solely on its inspiration. Solitary, this artisan based in Montreal works by hand (helped by an assistant) all his jewelry in his Vancouver workshop in order to offer pieces that are ever stronger and rich in emotion.
