Well named since its name is actually the contraction of “per il sole” or “for the sun” in Italian, the Persol brand no longer presents itself. But the legendary glasses have a fascinating history behind them, stretching back more than a century. It was in 1917 that an Italian optician named Giuseppe Ratti began making glasses for aviators. Rubber Gant for perfect grip, at the top of the technologies of the time, the Protectors met with success and the Persol brand was officially born in 1938. Equipped with the famous Meflecto, the first flexible temple system ever developed, the 714 are well known and for good reason, they contributed to the charisma of Steve McQueen in “The Thomas Crown Affair”.
