Wooyoungmi Man

Since its launch in 2002, the men's ready-to- porter brand Wooyoungmi has been one of the unmissable events of Paris Fashion Week. Between tradition and avant-garde, the Korean brand offers contemporary men's wardrobe with sportswear accents inspired by art and architecture. The collar of the shirts recalls the folding of origami, the t-shirts are adorned with graphic prints such as checks, stripes and undulating lines, etc. As for the cuts, geometric and elegant, they ensure an androgynous silhouette. Korean, Woo Young Mi began studying fashion at the University of Seoul in 1978. Gifted, the designer was noticed just five years later by winning the Osaka International Fashion Prize in 1983. In 1988, elle founded Solid Homme , a men's ready-to- porter brand. A pioneer of the genre at the time, Woo Young Mi soon distinguished herself as the purveyor of a minimaliste and chic aesthetic, made from quality materials. In 2002, elle launched Wooyoungmi to offer a new, international offering that was more focused on design. The fashion capital par excellence, Paris immediately stands out as the obvious setting for this new label. Younger, more street, the brand quickly found a loyal clientele.
In 2014, Woo Young Mi was joined by her daughter, Katie Chung, whom elle appointed to the position of Associate Artistic Director. Halfway between Paris and Seoul, where the house's two design studios are based, the tandem creates pieces with bold finishes, praised for their great attention to detail. Between arty inspirations and generational fusion, mother and daughter are shaping a new aesthetic, just as attractive as the previous one.
